The scene was set on day four in Scheveningen, Holland, as beachgoers and racers arrived early to find out what was in store for the day. With light offshore winds, competitors were forced to wait until 10:45 for the second race of the O’Neill Kiteboard World Cup and the first race of the day. At this time, winds measured 14 knots on the water.
The third day in Scheveningen, Holland offered promise as a great racing day, with winds blowing from 11-15 knots once the competitors arrived to the beach. Starting at 11:15, racers entered the water as surfers took advantage of the abundance of waves nearby in the light side-shore conditions.

The stage was set for the second official day of competition in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico, today as racers met at 10am to be briefed on the day’s events and forecast. The conditions looked promising and the competition began shortly thereafter, with the first race taking advantage of winds between 9 and 13 knots. This first race proved to be quite exciting in its last moments, as the leading John Heineken (USA) mistakenly missed his last mark before reaching the finish line, forcing him to turn back around, allowing Bryan Lake (USA) to take the first place finish in the second race of the competition.
I may come from the land down under, but I’m standing on top of the world, the PKRA world kiteboarding tour that is. In a recent interview with the current world kiteboarding tour leader Andy Yates he describes his passions and plans for reaching the top. If you have a clear vision of what you want then there are no impossibilities.
1. Strong, howling wind lifting the sand off the beach creating a desire to rip the waves under a kite. 2. Pumping wind on the mountains making the adrenaline course through your veins and forcing you to head for your kite bag. 3. (Where used) "Vaya Fumeke hemos pillado".. Now that was a good day of kiting!

With the earliest start yet for the MINI Kiteboard World Tour, day three provided good wind early on, and freestyle riders finally earned some time on the water. The Freestyle Pro portion of this competition involves a mix of old school and new school tricks, with a six-minute window to provide the best overall impression in each heat. Local favorite, Sean Farley (MEX) returned to competition for the first time in several years after a foot injury. Often considered a staple of international kiteboarding events, Farley proved his talent is still in tact, winning his first heat. Farley will go against Alberto Rondina (ITA) in the next round. Rondina also impressed with some stylish old school one-footers and newer tricks like his Moby Dick.
In the fifth and final day of competition, PKRA competitors turned up on the beach with the best-laid plans to make it to the podium. The wind began strong early in the morning and competition officially began just before 10am, with current World Champion Youri Zoon and the talented Dominican, Felix Antonio Martinez, initially battling for the first advancing position of the morning. As it turned out, all eyes were on Zoon today, as he faced a 10-heat climb after his surprising loss to the youngest competitor on tour – Liam Whaley. Zoon, therefore looked to a long day of competition in order to get back on the podium.
The International Sailing Federation (ISAF) has confirmed the final event and equipment selections for the Rio 2016 Olympic Sailing Competition. The ISAF Council voted that Kiteboarding will replace Windsurfing for the men’s and women’s board events and confirmed the equipment that will be used for the Women’s Skiff and Mixed Multihull Events.
Pablo: Tell us about you, how did you start in this sport?
Marilou: I always wanted to compete, even when I was wakeboarding and snowboarding, but I was sort of to ‘shy’ for it. Now, a bit older, I finished everything I wanted (University and I even had a bit of carrier experience) I have no more reason not to try it! I first started kiting in Quebec (French part of Canada) 5 years ago. Then, move from place to place, in search of wind. I even stop in St Pere Pescador to teach with K3 and really liked it (I Love the Spanish vibe!). Since 2 years now, I’m more dedicated to the sport and my personal goals. Every year there is some progress, new sponsors, stuff that I learn. It’s a different way of leaving life. It’s leaving every day ‘for’ and ‘from’ your passion. It’s worth any difficulties! I try to appreciate every moment of it.
